My Favourite Things This Week

How to Grow a YouTube Channel From Nothing in 2024 - I stumbled across this video earlier this week from Ali Abdaal which features Izzy Sealey.

If you’re thinking about starting a channel this year (or if you’ve already started) but find yourself struggling with consistency, imposter syndrome, or how to get better at speaking, then you should watch this video.

This is an inspiring conversation about what it really takes to build a YouTube channel and touches on the more emotional side of the content creation process.

I love to hear from creators who’ve grown despite having their challenges as their advice is always way more profound than the typical generic advice you hear spouted around. It’s a bit of a long-watch at 44 minutes but worth it if you’ve got the time.

📕 Article I’m Reading

How YouTube is Helping Creators Disclose AI Content - This week YouTube introduced a new option when uploading a video that will now force creators to state whether they’ve used AI-Generated content.

This was introduced in an effort to combat synthetic content that’s currently plaguing the platform and will now flag that a video has altered content in it to your viewers.

When you go to upload a video, you’ll be asked if the video includes any AI-generated content just like when you’re asked if this content was made for kids.

The above article goes a little more in-depth on what is and isn’t defined as “synthetic content”. I recommend you take a read to avoid YouTube blocking your content if it detects you’ve selected the incorrect option.

EVERYTHING I WORKED ON IN 2023 - Back in 2016, I was working part-time with Adobe as one of their Student Sales Reps. I ended up selling so many subscriptions to the Creative Cloud, (which includes software like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects), that I became the #1 Student Sales Rep in the whole of Europe!

As a result, they flew me out to a creative festival in Barcelona called OFFF, where I met so many interesting creatives working across video production, music, advertising, graphic design, and more.

One of the people I met there was Michael Flarup, a creative powerhouse who pumps out such incredible work every single year with several different companies that he runs.

Every year, he releases a video on his YouTube channel called ‘Everything I Worked on In 202X,’ where he breaks down month by month all of the projects he’s worked on and some of the lessons he learned along the way.

Check out this year’s video as he showcases his App Icon book, video games, graphic design, and so much more.
